Contrast marks in Portugal aim to independently guarantee the Jewelery legal touches making responsible not only who makes the artefact but also who controlled its touch, ensuring exemption. With this, in the European Union group, Portugal is one of the countries that offers the highest quality assurance standards to precious metal artefacts consumers, through a mandatory contrast independent of the manufacturer. All precious metal products (silver, gold and platinum) must be contrasted. The contrast should include the precious metal type and its purity. It is not mandatory to use contrast marks on gold pieces weighing less than 1g and silver weighing less than 5g.
